Sound occurs near the surface of our brain, where is then carried as electrical activity up thousands of nerves to reach the auditory cortex area. In our inner ear or cochlea, these sound vibrations are floating though a sea of hair cells where they will be processed. Tinnitus occurs when these hair cells become damaged how exactly that these hair cells and the mechanisms of the inner ear workings that contribute to this damage are not completely understood, although there are a number of theories. Drug studies and pharmacological evidence seems to support the theory that suggests that oxidative stress plays a significant role in the death of the hair cell. The other theories can vary so widely that it is hard to pin point exactly what factors lead up to the inner ear damage and the tinnitus symptoms.

Tinnitus (pronounced tin-ite-is) is the word used for ear ringing noises that some people experience within their heads, that no one else can hear. Tinnitus is often referred to as "ear ringing," many however will refer to tinnitus as buzzing, low humming, rushing noises, hissing, and or clicking like sounds. The noises may vary in pitch from a low roar to a high squeal and occur intermittently or constantly, in one or both ears.
Tinnitis isn’t a sickness or a disease. tinnitus is a condition. Tinnitus is a manifestation caused from medical conditions often also is likely to be as a result of inner and middle ear infections; or conditions and diseases like meniere’s disease. Aspirin and other medications may cause tinnitus in certain individuals.
The middle ear, the inner ear, the middle of the head and the outer ear are the main areas that the ear ringing noises and tinnitus are heard. In addition to the noises associated with tinnitus, those of us feel a pressure in the ears as well as dizziness.
More people get tinntis from damaged inner ear nerve endings than from any other cause. The inner ear is home to hundreds of thousands of electrostatically charged auditory nerve cells. Each and every one of those cells are covered with minute hairs. When the pressure of sound waves hit those tiny hairs they move i concert with the sound waves. An electrical discharge is triggered through the nerve nerve. When this electric impulse reaches the brain it is interpreted as a sound.
If damage occurs to those minute hairs, they move randomly and can no longer hold their electrical charge. Electronic impluses are then generated on a random basis and sent down the auditory nerves, that your brain picks up and tells you you’ve just heard a sound.
It is an accepted fact that although the hearing system degenerates with age the leading cause of tinnitus results from exposure to loud noise. Sinus sufferers or individuals who work at noisy places like airports have the greatest risk of developing tinnitus.
There are two main tinnitus types, a continuous tonal type and a pulsating tinnitus. The ringing ears tinnitus type is tonal tinnitus. Pulsatile tinnitus produces sounds that are intermittent, continuous, or pulsating in unison with the heartbeat.
Although tinnitus is only really a condition, hearing loss is and is permanent. It is estimated that approximately 90 percent of people with tinnitus have some degree of hearing loss. It is recommended that for a correct tinnitus diagnosis to be made, that a hearing test be made Most tinnitus sufferers fear deafness
